About Placemakers.us

PLACEMAKERS.us is an online resource for citizens, artists, designers, urban planners, elected officials, nonprofit organizations, businesses and anyone else interested or involved in creative placemaking.

PLACEMAKERS.us is one of the creative placemaking learning lab projects undertaken by WaterFire Providence as part of it’s 2012 ArtPlace America grant. The other focus of that grant was developing a public art incubator that experimented with new forms of art through collaboration with a diverse range of artists and cultural organizations. Here’s just one sample of that work.

The first phase of PLACEMAKERS.us will involve releasing a series of videos from The Art of Placemaking Conference, another WaterFire Providence creative placemaking learning lab initiative under it’s 2012 ArtPlace America grant. The Art of Placemaking Conference occurred November 6 and 7, 2013 in Providence, RI and incorporated the Rhode Island State Council for the Arts 2013 DataFest. Approximately 225 artists, placemakers, thought leaders, foundation staff, government officials and arts administrators participated in a range of plenary and breakout sessions over the 2 days. United States Senator Sheldon Whitehouse delivered the closing keynote address.
